From Ducks to Bucks, Big Bucks

For the Robertson family, the unfamiliar squawk of a duck call is the sweet sound of success.

The master mind behind the ‘uber’ successful ‘Duck Commander’ company is Phil Robertson, a former college quarterback from Monroe, LA., Robertson gave up a promising coaching career for his love of duck hunting when he discovered he could create a better duck call than any on the market – a move that lead to a fortune and earned his family their very own reality T.V. show.

Getting the company off the ground was not easy. Not even Walmart would buy his homemade calls. In his first year, Robertson said he made a profit of $8,000 and his wife, Kay, some how managed to feed 4 boys on that salary.

Today, Robertson’s family owned company, Duck Commander, has sales in the millions, with contracts for his product in several big name outdoor stores across the country.

The company is very much all in the family with 80% of its employees related in some form or fashion. Today, Phil and Kay’s sons have some of the most important roles the company has to offer. The couple’s third son, Willie Robertson, is CEO, while their other son, Jase Robertson, is the lead developer for the business’ prized duck calls.

This rags-to-riches story of a family owned business with a heavily bearded band of hunting experts was a reality show just waiting to happen. The Robertson’s are the stars of the family friendly reality show, Duck Dynasty, which airs on A&E every Wednesday at 10 ET/PT.

The show follows the whole Robertson clan as they try to keep up the family business while enjoying one another and the great outdoors. The show has a respectful Southern charm to it. At the end of each episode, the family has a sit down meal with the real duck commander, Phil Robertson, leading the family in a prayer.

This show gives the world a great insight into a great family. Yes, they have their ups and downs, but their love for one another and their faith in God keeps them on the path to success.

If you’re looking for a good T.V. show that you can watch with the whole family, join the 8.6 million plus viewers that tuned in to watch Duck Dynasty’s season 2 premier.
